Break The Search Engine Optimization Mold

by Allan Cockerill on July 19, 2011

Use Targeted Keywords

I cover a wide range of topics here at Coffee with Allan.

There are a few reasons for this.

Number one would have to be that my clients come from a number of different fields, and I can easily test my knowledge of their product or service here.

The second reason would have to be that I have a wide range of interests anyway, and have a passion for writing, as well as being a copy writer!

The third reason of course is that if potential clients are looking for examples of my work, they can come here and browse at their convenience.

We Are All Just Prisoners Here

A lot of people are so enslaved to the idea of SEO, that their writing becomes captive to it, their work doesn’t flow as easily.

They fret whenever Google changes its algorithms, such as in the infamous “Panda Update”.

The net result of this can be that their writing is suited to getting good search engine results, but it isn’t attractive to human readers.

And if they are trying to sell or promote something, they’ve virtually shot themselves in the foot!

You Can Check Out Any Time

To pinch another line from the Eagles, you can check out any time you like when it comes down to certain theories of search engine marketing.

After the latest Google update, it is quite obvious that the search engine is looking for good content!

If your writing flows, has the information that people are looking for with properly placed keywords and a balanced approach to optimization, you should rate well.

Getting The Balance In SEO Copy Writing

For me, the balance in SEO Copywriting comes in seeing traffic come to my web pages, and seeing people stick around on the site.

That means that a) my seo efforts are being rewarded and b) the people that have found the site like what they see enough to stick around.

The other key to getting balance is enjoying what you do!

We’re all just prisoners here of our own device

The above is a line out of the Eagles song, Hotel California, the title song from the Eagles’ album of the same name.

The song was released as a single in February 1977.

I mention it here because I wrote a post featuring that line in February 2007.

The post was about adding and losing friends on Facebook, and almost immediately I started getting search engine traffic related to the Eagles, so I wrote another post with “We are all just prisoners…” as the title.

Why Did I Use That Phrase?

I’d had the song going through my head, and somehow wedded the phrase and topic together.

The result was a couple of very popular posts that continue to attract visitors, and a great lesson about creating good web content.

Keys To Good Web Content Writing

  1. Enjoy your writing!
  2. Choose your keywords carefully.
  3. Write your copy around your keywords.
  4. Include key words in your titles.
  5. Don’t stuff your articles full them.
  6. Do all the usual backlinking and seo work!

Search Engine Optimization Shouldn’t Be Tedious!

SEO needn’t be the hard chore that it’s often made out to be!

Many so called experts on the topic out there would have you believe that so that they can charge like a wounded bull!

If you have a product or topic that people are searching for, well written content will help them find you.

Would We Shop At SleepZone Bathurst Again?

As I have said elsewhere on this website, on my business card, and constantly to my clients, getting your conversation right with your market is vital.

Get it wrong, and the world will know about it instantly.

This is true whether you are running a conventional off line, bricks and mortar business, or a business that operates primarily on the internet.

My favorite quote comes from The Clue Train Manifesto:

‘Markets are conversations – Talk is cheap, silence is fatal!’

Sleepzone’s Local Competition

The Bathurst Home Maker’s store is conveniently located to some pretty fierce competition, with Fantastic Furniture in the same centre, and Harvey Norman Kelso just next door.

Other bedding retailers in the area include the Original mattress Factory.

Being on top of your game is pretty important in today’s business environment, especially with your competitors being literally just a short walk away.

Product knowledge about beds, bedroom furniture and mattresses, as well as a keen customer service ethic are very important in the furniture retail industry, especially with such quality competition so close by!

Of course, with a population of around 40,000, a city like Bathurst, NSW is still small enough for bad news to travel fast.

Caring for one’s public image must be uppermost in the small business owner’s mind in the current economic climate!
