Person Does Not Equal Money!

Allan Cockerill's Facebook profile I picked up a really interesting blog off my Blog Friends feed on facebook this week by Rebecca MacKinnon.

Below is an excerpt from the blog, together with the link to read the full article by Rebbecca:

“After attending the 3rd Annual Chinese Blogger Conference which is one of the most egalitarian conferences on the planet, you get spoiled.

Then you go to a more corporate-oriented Web2.0 conference where executives and business school professors talk about Web 2.0 as the latest way to deliver products and advertising to customers and viewers, and you get highly annoyed.

As a user, I don’t consider a business to be truly 2.0 unless it has transformed its relationship with its customers and users from a one-way relationship to a give-and-take among equals.”

I called VJ’s tonight. VJ owns a foodstore here in town, and offers everything from fish and chips to really exotic pizza!

When I went pick up my order, I had to fight my way through a mass of people to get to the counter, where I was immediately recognised, given a quick smile and told that my order would be ready in a few minutes.

While I waited, I saw that everybody else was treated the same way, whether they were teenagers, blue collar workers or collar and tie types.

On my way out, I grabbed VJ’s business card. Beneath VJ’s name and phone number, the card simply read: “Expect Excellence”.

Perhaps this is something that a lot of ‘online marketers’ could learn from.

People are more than consumers. Listen to their wants, relate to them well and present great value, and you will have them rushing to do business with you!

If a humble fish and chip shop proprietor understands this principle, why is it so hard for so may others to grasp it?
