Thanks Lin - the pendulum has to swing back to center some time soon though doesn't it? A lot of what happens today is due to theory that has now been tested and wanting. While the image of white picket fences and life in the fifties before all this started is a little anachronistic, we do need to go back and restore the time tested values!

Yes, sometimes it's easy to forget! Perhaps they do it because they regret their own mistakes?

Once I became a parent I noticed there was a group of older people who complained about the kids of today being out of control and unruly. Yet these were the same people who would call child abuse hotlines if they heard you even raise your voice to your child. Yet they also were the generation that spanked their own children with padddles and switches.
There must be strict rules that are enforced (without abuse of course) so kids will mind.

This is appalling! I've been noticing for quite a few years now how kids are being told that if they don't like the parents rules or they are disciplined or punished in some way, to just call Child Protective Services and say "I'm being abused" even when they're not being abused.

You're right; society has gone nuts. When parents discipline their own child with restrictions like taking away computer access, or grounding a child, not allowing a child to go on a class trip etc, parents are treated as though they're abusing their child. Parents are often Damned if they do and Damned if they don't when trying to discipline they're own children.

Society has come up with so many "Don'ts" as far as how to discipline children, and the "Do's" are getting smaller and smaller. No wonder society is filled with kids who have no respect for any authority, especially their own parents, and often do whatever they want and sometimes get into so much trouble that parents then have to hire and pay for a lawyer when the kid gets arrested even though they did everything they could to discipline their child. The world has gone nuts.
