She stood up, and looked Deliciously appealing as I Reddit, and then tagged it in Faves!
In a moment, I realised that she was indeed my Friendster, and that I could really Digg this turn of events!
No, the old bloke hasn’t gone crazy, or at least I hope not!
I was trying to figure out a way of combining different site names in a couple of sentences.
I may not have succeeded too well, but if you’re still reading, then I did manage to catch your attention.
These sites are all social networking and bookmarking sites.
All the social bookmarking sites have similarities, but they have a number of differences as well. Disregard the differences at your own peril.
Teeg made the comment the other day that you can always pick someone who is used to another book marking site: they use new sites in the same way as the first one they ever used!
Social Bookmarking In Plain English!
Below is a video from Commoncraft
This video explains the concept far better than I ever could:
Book marking sites have been designed to display sites to other members.
Some allow you to submit your own site, and others will land on you like a ton of bricks for doing so!
When submitting sites, have some consideration for other members.
Spamming social bookmarking sites is a problem, and is set to increase. It’s something which will affect all of us even more as time goes on!
As the video suggests, social bookmarking is for members to save the site for themselves, and show it to their friends.
A handful of social bookmarking sites:
Notice that I said ‘a handful’ of social book marking sites. There’s a mass of them out there, and some are better than others.
The site mentioned in the video was Del.icio.us, so it’s logical to start there!
Next is Stumbleupon, very simple to use. For help I’d recommend Teeg’s site
Faves and Digg are variations on a theme, as is Ma.gnolia.
I mean no disrespect for any of the sites together in that last paragraph. I quite like them all, and enjoy spending time there and getting to know others, as well as finding my way around each site.
Twitter and Friendster aren’t social bookmarking sites!
They both got used at the start, for no other reason than that they fitted!
Twitter is a community of people from around the world keeping each other updated about happenings in their lives.
It’s a microblogging platform, used to blog up to 140 characters.
Friendster is a social networking service and at last count had about 50 million members!
I’m a member of all the sites mentioned here. I’m Ozegold on all of them, so feel free to add me!
