I’ve been having a discussion on Facebook about the purpose of the site.
The thread is called: ‘Seriously what is the purpose of Facebook but to network, personally and professionally…’
And I have to say that it is a really good question, and one that many people don’t stop to ask before diving in.
Michael from Calgary asked the question, and net workers new to any site would do well to stop and ask this same question, as well as having a good read of the terms of service of the site before going much further.
I’ve written before about how certain misdemeanors can get you kicked off Facebook, and it’s far easier to plot a course that avoids these at the start.
Problems always arise when there are different interpretations of the rules. My view may be different to Michael’s, or Joe Blow’s, but we have to consider what the administration says above all!
I might be there to network for business and fun, but Suzieq maybe there just to hang out with friends and share pictures! Big problems can and do arise when the two streams meet.
The next question that I asked in the thread was ‘Is networking advertising?’ I’m not going to answer that here and now, but I would like to invite you to send me your comments and opinions.
Feel free to add me as a friend on Facebook if you wish, simply click on my profile picture above. I have also added links to my Twitter, Del.icio.us, Friendster and Myspace profiles if you wish to add me there!
