Where Do I Stand On The Global Rich list Today

This post revisits a piece that I wrote back in 2008

Dollar Symbol Back in February 2008, I wrote about comparative wealth, and where people stand on the Global Rich List’

That post is still attracting a lot of attention, so I thought that I would revisit the topic today.

If you were wondering where you stand on the global income scale, you’ve come to the right place.

A number of people contacted me last time I was banging on about this, saying that I didn’t understand how hard a time they were having of it.

I don’t doubt for one minute that these people do find it hard, and I do understand, I have been there!

Don't lose the houseA couple of bad business decisions put my family and I in a precarious position some time back, and we almost lost our house.

So, do I understand the stress that that sort of pressure causes?

Yes, I sure do.

And do I understand what it feels like not to be able to give your kids the very best of everything?

Yes, I sure do, but I won’t keep going down that track, except to say that I went and got a ‘day job’, and worked on the business part time.

A lot of stuff, including a lot of my writing, was neglected due to both time constraints and a good dose of the blues!

Anyway, I am back firing on all cylinders, and writing again.

Back when I wrote the previous article, I said:

“I find that the problem with a lot of people is that they don’t realize just how well off they are.”

And you know what? I still say that.

Even in the midst of our troubles, we still had a roof over our heads, we still had enough to eat.

Our car wasn’t the latest model, but it just kept going (and still is, with 300,000 kilometers on the clock).

We’re thinking of placing it in the family museum (if and when we get around to building one).

The Positives That Came

We learned who our real friends are!

The Cout ProcessI had to reach deep and fight, we couldn’t afford high priced lawyers.

While my wife worked, I traveled to Sydney and appeared in court a number of times.

She accompanied me on my last trip and was amazed at my performance. Getting advice is easy, but the court thing is another.

I learned by watching how judges and lawyers interact, and learned from the mistakes of others representing themselves. (I made a few myself, but saved myself from making theirs).

A lot of new friends were made, including lawyers who later used my writing services.

There are a lot of other things that I learned, probably one of the most important was how much I love my wife and family.

And the fact that I am stronger than I realized.

And that only because I am more than a conqueror through Him who loves me.

In fact, it has been my long standing belief that because I am created in the image of the Creator, I can find answers, and make choices, that in the end will bring victory.

Sometimes, I do not like the process. And sometimes, I may not get the result I expected, but somehow, it all works for good!

Poverty?Did You Know That:

Three billion people live on less than $2 per day while 1.3 billion get by on less than $1 per day?

And did you know that 70% of those living on less than $1 per day are women?

Also, did you know that if you were on a pension here in Australia, even though you may struggle in comparison to many of your countrymen, you would still be in the top 20% income bracket globally?

In fact, if you check here, you may find that you would be in the top 14 – 16%!!!
