Social Media Marketing And Follow Friday

Allan Cockerill Social media marketing, Twitter and Follow Friday are three different, though related topics which I’ve decided to weave together for my Follow Friday post this week.

I sometimes wonder how effective the so called social network marketing strategy of some people is supposed to work.

For many, this form of marketing seems to be simply a matter of gaining as many followers as possible, and then driving them insane with links!

This can’t be very effective in the long run as a) it isn’t targeted, and b) eventually many people are just going to get sick of being ‘sold’ to in this way, and react by blocking the ‘marketers’ concerned.

Twitter, Facebook and Linkedin etc. on are ideal places to meet others, and to network for business.

The networking can spill offline too, as it did for me recently when I met @LibertyGrrrl from the Blue Mountains in NSW, Australia.

Liz invited me to a Katoomba Biznet function where I met others doing business both on and offline, and have since linked with them on social media sites as well.

Today I met @darrin_johnson from the Australian Heart Foundation.

I will happily recommend someone like Darrin to my friends, as he’s there for a cause, rather than just to make a quick buck.

Another couple with a cause are @Rickads and @catebolt, who are embarking on an adventure with their children to build an orphange in Indonesia.

Yet another friend with a cause is @farho, who with his lovely wife is a missionary on the African continent.

@BlokesLib gets a mention here because he’s genuine, and a great bloke as well!

@Sue_Murdock is great fun too, and a nice person to get to know!

So what is my Twitter strategy?

I try and interact, and make friends with others as time permits.

While I’m not selling anything on social media sites, I know that people will check out my blog if I interest them.

I’ve met people on the site who have become great friends, as well as a couple of joint venture partners.

Keeping up with the latest news is easy, and hearing the views of others can be challenging.

I have great fun blocking someone called Shelley who appears every day with a new user name, along with a series of ladies saying that they are ‘bored, add me’.

Have I ever bought anything from anyone on Twitter?

Not that I can remember!

So my follow friday reommendations this week are:

@LibertyGrrrl @darrin_johnson @Rickads @catebolt @farho @BlokesLib and @Sue_Murdock!

So, I guess that the best thing that I can promote there is… me!

Back next week with more, have a great weekend… and remember the Twitter Golden Rule!:

Tweet unto others, as you would like to be tweeted unto… 😉
