Adding Friends On Facebook: People You Meet!

The thing I enjoy most about social networking on the Internet would have be the people that I’ve met there.

Of course the ease of adding friends on Facebook and other sites makes it that much easier to build a network.

The approach that I like to take is one of being visible in discussion groups, and making a contribution to the groups that I am in.

This enables other people to introduce themselves to me if they wish to.

When I make a post in a discussion group these days, I don’t often place a link to my own websites, simply because I hate people trying to sell me things, or spamming groups by leaving irrelevant posts on the wall.

Because I am able to post links to my websites on my Facebook Profile, I feel that there is adequate provision for others to see them, as well as catching up with me when I post on Twitter, or use applications such as Blog Friends.

One of the easiest people that I have found to get on with on Facebook is George Karahalios, pictured in the photo above.

George is a businessman from Athens, Greece, who’s company runs a rather romantic sounding cruise through the Greek islands. I’m hoping to get over and do the trip one day soon myself.

What sets George apart from a lot of other people though, is his heart for children.

Involved in a number of charities and causes, he has now set his sights on funding and training teachers in Sri Lanka, as well as helping to start income producing ventures for local communities.

George and a number of like minded individuals, including myself, are discussing ways of achieving this goal.

I was troubled recently after hearing that not much had changed on the ground since the tsunami two years ago wreaked so much havoc on Sri Lanka and other nations.

While so many people from around the world gave so much immediately, it is obvious that so much more needs to be done, on an ongoing basis.

George has found that just $190.00US per month will train and provide for a teacher in Sri Lanka.

One idea that I have had is to mobilize as many people as possible to give just $2.00US per week, and try to invite one person per month to the cause.

The possibilities have got me excited. Imagine if we started with 1,000 people, each giving $2.00 week and inviting at least one person per month. What could we achieve?

The only way out of poverty is by educating and training, and by giving support while this is happening. We tossed the sum of $2.00/week around, simply because it is so affordable.
