Follow Friday On Twitter July 03 2009

Allan CockerillIn keeping with the pattern established over the past few weeks, today’s post ties in with #Follow Friday on Twitter.

I think that the concept is a great one, though I would prefer to write about the people that I recommend rather than send a list of names to every one that I know on Twitter.

Writing about different friends on social media sites helps give an insight into why you may like to meet my friends as well.

Becky CortinoMeet Becky Cortino.

Becky is an Author, speaker, longtime published writer in the media.

Her background is in marketing/pr, advertising, sales, consulting, and media. She has production experience in all media.

I first met Becky about twelve months ago on Facebook and have found that she’s a got a great sense of humor.

Des WalshMy friend Des Walsh
and I met on Facebook almost two years ago. Des dived into social media and began making videos long before it became popular.

His mission is to help business owners and entrepreneurs navigate the social media maze and become savvy participants, not road-kill.

This guy’s an inspiration to me, and is also working to bring the movers and shakers in the Australian Parliament up to speed on all things Web 2.0.

Christine LacombeChristine Lacombe is another Facebook Friend

We met almost two years ago there, and have run into each other on a couple of different sites.

Christine is a champion, and a ten year survivor of breast cancer. One of my favorite online friends, she has a great sense of humor!

I got this from her website: A mushroom walked into a bar and bought everyone a drink. Said one person at the bar: ”You’re a fun guy.”

Lisa SandersonLisa Sanderson is from Pocono Mountains

A real estate geek, and mother of two teenage girls, Lisa warns you to only follow her if you have a great sense of humor.

Lisa has a great sense of humor herself and is very easy to get along with. (Anyone with teenage daughters just HAS to have a great sense of humor!)

You will notice that I have know everyone here, including Lisa, for quite a while on Facebook and Twitter.

They are all real people, and definitely the sort of folks that are worth getting to know if you have the chance!

This is a point that I keep making about social media sites: they are there to do more than just advertise, and share your latest offer.

Use the ‘Twitter Golden Rule’:

Tweet others the way you would like to be tweeted!

By treating everyone with respect and courtesy, your network will grow, and strengthen!

  1. I’m honoured, Allan. Thank you for including me here, in such livewire company. Your post helps to make clear what people not on Twitter don’t get – that there are real conversations going on, among real people. And I feel a blog post coming on, to riff somewhat on the train of thought you have initiated.

  2. @DesWalsh Real conversations with real people are what Twitter and other social media sites are about.

Spreading and encouraging the conversation by writing about my friends is one way of adding value to them, and the Twitter community as a whole.

    Cheers!
