Twitter Your Blog Comments With CommenTwitter

I’d like to introduce you to a WordPress plugin that posts comments from your blogs visitors directly to Twitter.

CommenTwitter is the brain child of Jonathon Bishop, the Internet Marketing Specialist at Magicomm, LLC in Amesbury, MA.

CommenTwitter

    Features Of the plugin include:

  1. Ajax “Send To Twitter” interface integrates seamlessly
  2. Commenters can Tweet their comments
  3. Links back to comments are shortened with cli.gs
  4. Can be tracked by adding an API key
  5. Blog author can Tweet all new comments
  6. A prefix can be added to the tweet

When replying to comments lately, I’ve also made a point of including the commenter’s Twitter user name in my reply.

This is an idea that may give them added exposure, as well as perhaps giving others an added incentive to leave comments on the blog.

I make a point of not replying to all comments at once though, simply because I don’t wish to flood the timelines of other users.

While I realize that other worpress plugins such as Disqus do a similar job, I like the fact that CommenTwitter allows me to retain control over comments on my site.

If you try this plugin, and like it, I’d encourage you to leave a donation via Paypal so that Jon can continue his excellent development work!

You can find Jon on Twitter and Stumbleupon

Please Note: This is not a paid blog post, and I have no affiliation with the author other than using his program and following him on Twitter!

  1. Hi Alan,

Funny you should mention Disqus, I’m actually trying that out for about a week now … for just the opposite reason as you mentioned … I actually did/do want to get comments off of my blog.

Either way, the idea of tweeting comment replies strikes me as a good one. If a topic is good enough to take the time to write out a comment, it should be good enough to send to my twitter stream.

  2. G’day @whoisTodd I tried Disqus and Intense Debate some time ago, but prefer this plugin.

What I like about linking the blog to Twitter is that it extends the conversation, and includes others.

I get a bit concerned sometimes that the conversation and interaction can get lost in all the background noise elsewhere!

    Have a great week,

    Allan!

  3. Hi Alan,

Oh yea, any time you can extend the conversation it’s a good thing … and if you can integrate twitter with your blog, all the better.

Speaking of that, I like what you did with the follow-friday post. I was actually consider trying something similar myself. Hope you don’t mind if I “borrow” your idea.

  4. Thanks @whoisTodd, I think that interaction is a great feature with Twitter. Linking #followfriday to a post like this helps to encourage the conversation!

This post was my version of what others are doing, and I’m not sure who started it, so of course, you’re more than welcome to try the idea! 🙂

    Cheers,

    Allan
