Democracy Is The Worst Form Of Government

A quote by Winston Churchill caught my eye today:

“It’s been said that democracy is the worst form of government, except for all the others that have been tried”.

Watching the current election campaign in the US, and the manoeuvring going on here in Australia in the lead up to this year’s Federal election, I tend to agree.

There seems to be something odd about opponents belting the tar out of opponents who are supposedly on the same side, and then uniting behind one candidate.

So that they can then attempt to belt the tar out of, and discredit someone else.

Is this really the best thing for the country?

What has happened to reasoned debate (as distinct from mudslinging)?

Is this the best way to come up with the best policies?

Or am I just another idealist?
