Shh Silence Is Golden But Don’t Mention The Beatles
Everybody makes mistakes, and has regrets as they think back on them, but how would you be if you were a record company executive, and had a choice between the Beatles and another group?
And you didn’t choose to sign the Beatles?
According to this Wikipedia article, that’s exactly what happened back in the early 60’s.
Decca had the chance to sign the Beatles, but instead chose to sign ‘The Tremeloes’.
The Tremeloes were a group that was originally cast in the mold of Buddy Holly and the Crickets.
They had a number of hits between 1963 and 1971.
21 of their songs made it into the charts in the United Kingdom, with 5 of their songs reaching the Billboard Top 100 in the United States.
The band still tours, although it hasn’t had a hit since 1971.
Members of the group went on to successful careers with other groups, as well as producing for other artists.
