A Good Name Does Matter Just Ask Any Bogan
Michael McNamara has mentioned one of my favorite topics: Bogans!
Having written my own piece on Bogans I was very interested to read what Michael had written on his blog.
Also mentioned in the post are such famous and outstanding places as Watanobbi (pronounced What a Nobbie) and Soily Bottom Point.
I guess that word meanings have changed over the years, and like a lot of place names in other parts of the world, residents of these areas just have to put up with it.
Jokes and innuendo would be hard enough to take, let alone the drop in land and house prices.
So it’s no wonder though that the majority of residents of the Sydney suburb of Spit Junction prefer to describe themselves as living in the neighboring suburb of Mosman.
Check out Michaels post, well worth a read!
I’d be interested in hearing other unusual place names as well.
Since reading the article, local place names such as Mt Horrible, and Devil’s Marbles come to mind!
