Is Twitter Just About Numbers
I was playing around the other day and came across TwitterHolic.com, which informed me that I was number so many on a list of thousands of Twitter users.
The grading was based on the number of followers that I have. That’s nice, I thought, and clicked away to something else.

It did get me thinking though, because it got me wondering yet again, what makes a successful social networker?
And for all it’s usefulness as a communication medium, is Twitter being hijacked?
Don’t get me wrong, I think Twitter is brilliant!
My problem is with it’s misuse.
I “unfollowed” one particular superstar there today who sent something like 15 tweets in a matter of twenty minutes, all about the same topic.
If that person’s intention was to win friends and influence people, he certainly didn’t win me.
Unfortunately, there seem to be more and more of these twits on the site!

Thanks to Debbie Weil for the video.
I’ve got a great network of friends on a number of sites.
They don’t number in their thousands, and probably never will.
But they have friends, and their friends have other friends, and so on.
This is the real value of social networking on Twitter, Plurk, Facebook or any other social media site.
And I don’t have to bug the living daylights out of my friends!
What’s the best way to network?
Simple, as Seth Godin says in the video, give value.
I’d add, don’t hide behind a user name – be brave and use your real name on your profile, with your user name if you wish.
