Lose Your Job The Easy Way With Youtube Myspace And Bebo

AllanI wrote an article a short time ago titled:
How Facebook Is Killing Careers Before They Start,
but in retrospect maybe I should have called it ‘How some people are using Facebook to kill their careers!’

Guy Kawasaki recently made a similar on Truemors.

It has been reported that employers are now using information gained by scanning social networking sites such as Youtube, Myspace, Facebook and Bebo.

Not just for information about new employees, but about those already working for them as well.

While the person mentioned in my previous post brought trouble on himself by calling in sick, then going to a Halloween party and posting photographs on Facebook, this report concerns people already employed by companies getting caught in their own time.

There are of course two sides to every story, and one must look at the conditions of employment and other factors when considering the pros and cons of any case.

The impression that you give others about yourself, may, in your employer’s eyes, reflect badly on them.

Life on the internet is very public, rather like living in a fishbowl.

How you behave, and more importantly, the perception that you give others, is very important!

The easiest way to upset employers using the internet is to do something stupid, or morally questionable, and have someone take damning video footage or photographs of the event.

Next, have the material posted on any of the following sites: Myspace, Youtube, Bebo or Facebook.

The third, and easist step: wait!

Of course, there are some very serious privacy concerns here too.

What should the limits be in regard to the information that employers can find, and use, regarding their employees?

Is your time off really your own time to do as you see fit?

As long as you’re not breaking the law, does your employer need or deserve to know what you do in your own time?

What sort of a footprint are You leaving online?
