Social Networking On A Sunday Afternoon
We wrapped up a great weekend today with a few hours of social networking!
Not anywhere flash like Facebook or Linkedin mind you, but at the local Irish Pub.
Jack Duggan’s Irish pub in Bathurst that is!
Catching up with friends on a cold winter Sunday afternoon is a great way to end the weekend.
It’s a great way to end the weekend on a hot summer Sunday afternoon as well, but I’ll save that for another post!
I think that in about two hours I talked shop for about ten or twenty minutes!
Sometimes we forget that social networking isn’t something new, the human race has been doing it for thousands of years.
I spoke to an existing client about some ongoing work that I’m doing for him, and was introduced to a prospective client as well.
We’re meeting on Tuesday to discuss his new project.
The rest of the time that we were there was spent listening to the music! I even joined in the chorus when it was loud enough to drown me out!
A few pints of Kilkenny and a roast dinner with friends and family around the fire, watching the football and chatting filled out the rest of the time.
Of course, we did find a lot of important stuff to talk about – like trying to estimate the amount of Guiness and Kilkenny served in comparison to Australian beers such as Carlton and Tooheys!
Oh, and how come if Australia was settled by the English, we drink cold beer, and they drink theirs warm?
And how on earth did those coins get frozen to the beer taps, and will they ever thaw out?
Social media isn’t just a place to sell products friends! It’s a place to get to know others, and let them see that you are real.
Sure, share a link on Twitter occasionally, and let me know about your business and what you do!
But send me a constant stream of sales messages? Instant unfollow!
And as Teeg shared here a while back:
No Bio, No Photo, No Follow!
Do it the wrong way, and your social networking may just be a big waste of time!
