Anges Excellent Kokoda Trail Adventure

Trekking In New Guinea With Ange Recchia

Ange RecchiaI’ve come to know Ange quite well since I first met her on Facebook.

After meeting her there we also linked on Stumbleupon, Twitter, Digg, Faves and more recently, Plurk.

Obviously, Ange is a social networking Diva, and seems to be every where.

Ange’s blog covers topics that include Personal Development, Wealth Creation, as well as Emotional and Financial Intelligence.

Ange shares her vision

A few months back, Ange shared with us that she was going to trek the Kokoda track across the Owen Stanley Range in Papua New Guinea.

This area was the scene of a series of battles between allied forces (mainly Australian, with US support) and the Japanese during World War 2.

The battles here were part of the turning point of the Pacific war, and had Japan won, Australia would have been neutralized, and possibly invaded.

The Japanese would also have had control of vital shipping lanes into both the Indian and Pacific oceans.

Trekking the trail has now become a rite of passage for many Australians.

Preparing For The Trek

In the months leading up to the trek, Ange spent months in training, trekking rugged tracks through the Dandenong ranges.

She’d disappear for days at a time, and then come back and tell us what it had been like.

My part in the adventure was to write a series of posts explaining the history of Kokoda, and the conditions that Ange would find there.

The first in this series was posted on March 3, 2008.

Ange, Champion Trekker

Ange came home early from her trip, and kept to herself for a while.

It turned out that she had broken her wrist, and was quite devastated!

I’d just like to state what a champion I think Ange is for getting in there and having a go.

Her goal was to stretch herself, and try something that she would never have otherwise done.

Might I add that she set out to do something that most people only dream about, and for that she needs to be commended too.

In my mind she has accomplish this, regardless of the way it finished..

Life doesn’t always go the way that we want, or expect it to.

Please follow the above link to Ange’s blog! I would appreciate it if you’d drop by and encourage her!

Below are three videos showing conditions on the Kokoda Trail. When you watch them, you will understand just why Ange deserves her champion status.

To coin the terms used by the team leader on the trip, this is an absolute arse buster of a trip.
