Seven Things About Me
I’ve taken up a challenge from Ange to list Seven Things About Me!
She in turn took up the challenge from Diane at Much of a Muchness.
Like Ange, I did piano lessons, but my teacher thought that my musical ability was more akin to that of a caveman loping around a fire and banging two sticks together.
That was about when I made a decision to write, figuring that if I couldn’t play an instrument I may as well do something creative (and we won’t even talk about my singing).
And chocolate is something else that I have in common with Ange, the darker the better, minimum standard has to be Nestle Club!
Reverse parking is something you have to do here anyway, as in in this area parking is at a 45 degree angle rear to curb – of course some park at 90 degrees while others don’t bother and just nose in!
This can create some rather hilarious situations as they try to get out again, especially if the ‘Brown Bomber’ (parking officer) is making his way up the street!
To the left is a picture of the local court house, where the locals have shown off their parking skills! Of course, in this location they would have to park properly anyway – it is near the courthouse after all!
I cook, when I get the chance, and specialise in Indian Curries, and lately have been trying to get a handle on Mediterranean cuisine, especially Lebanese food.
Coffee, and plenty of it, is another thing I have to have!
But again, I am a bit of a snob when it comes to coffee, it has to be good quality, and made just right, or I’ll just have tea thanks!
Coffee with chocolate can really get me buzzing, as does coffee and baklava. Of course, I’ll have Lebanese coffee with that!
Baklava is a sticky, delicious Greek dessert that combines nuts, sugar, cinnamon, and honey…
I’m a bit off a history buff, though I am a bit ticked off by the fact that mankind never seems to learn from history, and continues to make the same mistakes over and again!
I guess that’s human nature though, and as much as social engineers can try, they won’t change that in a hurry, if at all!
I’m on a self appointed crusade to present snippets of history, especially Australian history, so that people here know a little more about the past of this country.
It seems to me that Australians tend to know more about British and US history than their own.
I’m heavily into social networking, and use my blog to teach others about this as well.
I believe that sites like Facebook and Myspace are set to expand even further, especially as Facebook expands into non English speaking parts of the world.
Social networking on sites such as Stumbleupon will also continue to evolve, and I get upset when people simply use them as a traffic exchange.
This devalues the site, as well as the people that we make as friends there!
I’m also now trying to become a gardener, although things have been really dry here. I have installed a rainwater tank both to conserve water, and cut costs.
My next project in this department is to redesign my garden, and build an outdoor kitchen area.
We already have a court yard adjacent to the garage, and have made an archway in the garage wall so that we can step down into the court yard.
I intend tiling part of that area for the outdoor kitchen.
When we have guests, it will be simply a matter of leaving the vehicles on the street, closing the garage door and we have an indoor/outdoor entertainment area!
Having said all that, I have tagged Teeg and Durano with the 7 Things challenge…
Hey Allan, well now I know a bit more about you 🙂 Lol at the parking! I love your history articles and when you get that outdoor kitchen area done, post some pics of it… it’s great with our climate to be able to cook outdoors as well as indoors… makes less mess inside 😉
Buzzing with Ange’s last blog post..Seven Things About Me
G’day Ange
Stage one of the kitchen is there of course, with the obligatory Aussie BBQ sitting in the corner, but, I NEED to have the more power one with all the gizmos – the only trouble of course is that I will have to read a manual…
In the meantime of course, the courtyard is a great place summer or winter to sit and think!
We have a Roman Fire pit opposite the BBQ, which is great for sitting around toasting marshmallow or savouring a cold beer, or coffee, as the occasion demands!
Cheers!
🙂 😉 🙂
Hi Allan, I believe that’s more than seven things about you, but it leaves me interested and wanting to know more.
The thing about history repeating itself reminds me of George Bernard Shaw who said…”We learn from history that men never learn from history…” sad isn’t it. The comment you posted on my site was also along this context, in the area of war.
I am an avid history fan and I enjoy the bits of history you write about. If I were Australian, it would make me proud. “We are one, but we are many”, great song. Should be your national anthem. I’m kinda repetitive huh? 🙂 –Durano, done!

G’day Durano,
Well, at least we’ve got that settled mate – you’re kinda repetitive and I can’t count! 🙂
I guess that the challenge is yours then: 7 things about Durano… are you up to the challenge?
As for war, unfortunately, as long as there are humans there are wars – as much as we may try to deny it, it’s true.
If only we could learn from history…
I’m glad you like the history posts.
Cheers!
Allan,
It is done and posted. The challenge has been met! 🙂 –Durano, done!
