Learning To Drive Like A Race Driver
Learning to drive in Bathurst had a big advantage for me, an advantage called Mount Panorama!
The Mountain is the capital of Touring Car Racing in Australia, and hosts the Bathurst !000 V8 Supercar Race!
The race has been sponsored for the past few years by Supercheap Auto, and attracts drivers from around Australia, as well as other countries.
I had the opportunity to learn to drive on the track, a 6.21 kilometer (3.86 mile) circuit said to be one of the toughest in the world.
I’m now in the process of teaching two of my kids to drive, and am giving them the benefit of some tough driving lessons.
I was thinking of You today as I showed visitors around the Mount, and thought that you might like a peek at the track under race conditions!
Note – I don’t teach my kids to drive quite like this – my wife would kill me!
Apart from that, the track doubles as a public road outside of race times, and is speed limited to 60 KMH (a tad over 37 MPH)
And it is monitored closely by the Highway Patrol!
Mount Panorama Bathurst Quick Facts:
The track is 6.31 kilometers long, with a 174 metre vertical difference between its highest and lowest points, and grades as steep as 1:6.13!
