Peter Denahy Sort Of Dunno Nothin
Writer’s block can do strange things!
In Peter Denahy’s case, it led to a whole new song! After a three week spell of trying to come up with lyrics for songs for his new album, he began rehearsing what he would say about how his song writing was going.
And that is how “Sort Of Dunno Nothin” came into being.
Apart from proving that inspiration can come from the most unusual sources, the song has become a hit on YouTube, and has now been picked up by radio stations across Australia, and the video clip is being aired on television as well.
Peter Denahy is a story teller, and although his background has been in country music, his music covers a broad range.
The single “The Ringing Of The Steel” was nominated for the 2008 Golden Guitar Award in the “Heritage Song Of The Year” category.
Peter’s written songs for a number of artists, including “The Bloke Who Serves The Beer”, which was included on the late Slim Dusty’s 100th album.
As well as being a songwriter, Peter Denahy is a musician and comic, and has released several albums on the ACMEC label.
He plays fiddle, accordion and guitar and toured as a support act with Slim Dusty’s Traveling Country Band.
Sort Of Dunno Nothin’ is a clever song that has hit a nerve with parents and teenagers world wide.
It has received even more attention with the beginning of the Rugby League season in Australia.
Radio 2GB’s Ray Hadley and the Continuous Call Team have been playing the song during their pre game broadcasts, and it has somehow come to be known as ‘Crusher’ Cleal’s song, named after former League legend Noel Cleal because of his habit of giving one word answers in interviews.
I have included the video of the song here, as well as one of another of Denahy’s songs, “The Bloke Who Serves The Beer”
Please note that these clips won’t appear in RSS feeds.

Hi Allan,
I see you have posted a notice before the comment box. Been receiving hate mail lately? 🙂 Me, I just delete them. It’s okay to disagree but to leave insults is another thing. I usually receive these types from conservative right wingers in the US.
This is a wonderfully entertaining post on Peter Denahy. He very aptly describes some of today’s detached and under achieving youngsters; those with no drive nor direction. The song is good and should attract a lot of today’s kids.
Your previous post on the Great Escape is also remarkable. I remember seeing this movie and it further reinforced my identification with Steve McQueen. This was a moving tribute and sort of eulogy. Very nice. 🙂 –Durano, done!

Hi Durano,
Actually the conditions are just in case – so that anyone who leaves inappropriate comments, or attacks others here, will not have their comments displayed.
I haven’t had any real trouble, and have a couple of plugins that delete comments that contain certain words, or an excess number of links.
Thanks for the comments – Peter Denahy has been around for quite a while, and is very talented. I like the way he used ‘writers block’ as the catalyst for writing a song.
The Great Escape – truly a remarkable chapter of WW2 history, and judged a success because even though only three prisoners escaped Germany, it is estimated that they tied up at least 50,000 troops, and kept them from the war effort.
Cheers
