Earth Liberation Front Strikes While Brianna Waters Waits
With a reported three homes burnt to the ground, allegedly by an organisation known as the Earth Liberation Front, the term ‘Ecoterrorist‘ is being bandied about.
The fires, in a Seattle residential development known as the ‘Street of Dreams’, caused an estimated $7 million damage.
The suspected reason for the blaze is that the homes were being marketed as being ‘green’, or environmentally friendly.
This section of the market is growing rapidly, in an industry that is in a slump in other sectors.
The buildings were certified ‘green’ by Built Green, a non profit organization that encourages the building of homes using environmentally friendly practises.
These fires occured at a time when Brianna Waters is waiting for the outcome of her trial in which she was accused of setting fire to Center for Urban Horticulture on the Seattle campus of the University of Washington.
The ELF member testified she that had nothing to do with the arson, and if convicted faces 35 years in prison.
While anyone with any sense needs to be aware of environmental problems, and live accordingly, one wonders how effective burning down buildings is in changing the situation.
It seems that attempts to combine better, or more environmentally friendly building practices, aren’t good enough for some!
Apart from the pollution and extra carbon release caused by acts of arson, the cost to the community is immense!
