The family migrated to Australia in 1958 when Barry Gibb was 12. Robin and Maurice were 9 years old.

They lived in Australia for a just under ten years before returning to Britain in 1967 to further their music careers.

The boys began to sing in harmony after the family moved back to Manchester, England, during the 1950s when they performed at a local cinema.

They were going to lip sync to a record, but as they were running to get there, Maurice dropped the record on the street, causing it to break.

As a result, the brothers got on stage and sang themselves.

Moving to Australia in 1958, they performed at a number of resorts along the Queensland coast.

After a securing a recording contract with Festival Records with the help of Australian singer Col Joye, they returned to Great Britain in 1967.

Their song, Spicks and Specks reached number 1 on the Australian charts while they were traveling to Britain.

The Bee Gees’ first British single, New York Mining Disaster 1941, reached the Top 20 in both the UK and US.
