Ange Recchia Invites You To Trek The Kokoda Trail

Ange RecchiaHave you got a spirit of adventure?

Have you ever dreamed of taking on a challenge that tests you to the limit, physically, spiritually and emotionally?

Then you could be just the person that Ange is looking for!

In a few months time, Ange is trekking across the Owen Stanley Ranges in Papua New Guinea.

The Kokoda Trail (or track) is the scene of a series of fierce battles between Australian and Japanese forces during World War 2.

The trail is basically a single file path that stretches for 90 kilometers, or about 60 miles, through rugged mountain terrain.

Temperatures range from very cold at night to very hot during the day.

Below: a video of a recent expedition by Our Spirit

Please note that the video will not show in RSS feeds.

Thanks to Our Spirit for the use of the video!

Ange is intent on completing the trek in just eight days!

New Guinea is situated in the Pacific ocean in an area known as Melanesia, and is the world’s second largest island.

Located in the tropics, the island is located just to the north of Australia.

If you are interested in going, you will need to be reasonably fit.

Apart from the benefit of broadening your horizons on the trip of a lifetime, if you wish, you will also be featured on this blog, along with Ange!

To get the ball rolling, you can express your interest and find out details about costs, visa requirements and so on by going to Ange’s Greatest Challenge and leaving a comment.

  1. I would love to get to go on such an adventure!! I would say add me in, but I am a single parent and getting away is not always easy.
Will you be able to post from the trail? That would be really neat if you could.

  2. Hi Ange,My name’s John and I live and work in Darwin.

I have done the Kokoda Track twice. I have trekked from both ends, i.e from Kokoda to Owers Corner, Owers Corner to Kokoda.

Its physically challenging, but rewarding. It is a test of your inner strength to succeed when the going gets tough.

I am so passionate about the track that I have begun to put together a trekking website to help the local Papuans (sons of the Fuzzy Wuzzy Angels) to get more benefit out of the tourism.

If you’re interested in teaming up with me, pop me an email.

I am writing about the fighting (Kokoda Campaign Jul 1942 – Jan 1943) which will be featured on the site.

Another of my aims is to get those of us that are really passionate about the track, to re-trace and re-live those brave Australian soldiers who fought for our land and our freedom.

    Hope to hear from you.

  3. Hi John,

Ange is currently on the trek, and is offline for a while yet… I’m sure that she will be interested in your work though!

In the meantime, thanks for the great comment,
