Confusing The Climate Change Debate Helps No One

Breaking Through

One thing that really bugs me about the climate change debate is the way that variations in the weather seem to be twisted to suit particular points of view.

If the weather’s warmer than at this time last year, global warming is a fact, if it’s cooler, then it’s a fallacy.

Thinks – that we do not know the answers and the media should stop trying to be experts. Having said that the scientists are issuing a warning and we must become very conscious of looking after the third rock a lot better

Hey Jim, I totally agree!

The scientists have indeed issued a warning, and we need to keep up to date with their continuing research and reasoned debate.

There are a number of economic issues to be resolved, as well as environmental ones, and it won’t be until all nations take cohesive action that anything will be resolved.

In the meantime, every one who can should be looking at simple solutions in their own home such as installing alternative energy supplies, using rainwater tanks and recycling grey water.

Kevin Rudd’s goal of 20% of Australia’s energy requirements coming drom renewable resources by 2020 is an admirable one, but we need to get started now! (That’s assuming that the whole thing isn’t just a kite flying exercise!)

Along the way, journalists and others in a position to influence opinion need to stop using anecdotal evidence to support flimsy arguments for or against the issue – no one wins with that scenario!

Cheers mate, and happy new year!
