Huffing And Puffing About Nothing

by Allan Cockerill on January 25, 2008

3 PigsOnce upon a time there were three little pigs… and so the story began all those years ago.

Today though, it’s not likely to pass muster because of the fact that it may offend Muslims, and even builders!

In fact, a CD book for children based on the story entitled The Three Little Cowboy Builders has been rejected by judges from the ‘Bett Awards’.

The Bett Awards is a competition which is run by the British government’s technology agency for schools.

I always thought that the Three Little Pigs was a parable about building on a firm foundation, and doing things right the first time.

It shows that with foresight, planning and hard work one can be successful.

To suggest that it’s an attack on Muslims or builders is ridiculous, and is a sad comment on the way society is headed.

The drive to be ‘nice’ and not offend appears to be curbing freedom of speech, and our own traditions in today’s (western) world.

The original Three Little Pigs film:

Three Little Pigs is an animated short film released on May 27, 1933 by United Artists, produced by Walt Disney and directed by Burt Gillett.

Based on a fairy tale of the same name, Three Little Pigs won the 1934 Academy Award for Best Short Subject: Cartoons.

In 1994, it was voted #11 of the 50 Greatest Cartoons of all time by members of the animation field.

In 2007, Three Little Pigs was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant”.
