Caution Naughty When Drunk

Naughty IconCircle of friends is an interesting application on Facebook.

I have three circles, interested in writing, photography and internet marketing, as well as being part of a number of others.

The latest circle that I have seen though, Naughty When Drunk, caught my attention when it appeared on my profile.

Actually it brought back memories of the time years ago that I learned to speak like a Scotsman.

The company that I was working for at the time had a workforce that was 50% Scottish, and I can tell you that they really kept me on my toes.

There were quite a few Irishmen there too, so we were a pretty wild combination when we were out.

We formed a pool competition at a local pub, and I found that the more beer that they drank, the harder they became to understand.

Of course, the logical decision for me to make was to have a few extra beers so that I could keep up with them.

I can’t say that it worked for sure, but my prowess with a pool cue certainly suffered, and MY accent sounded all right!

One night I do remember that I had been drinking Bundy and cloves, with a touch of coca cola.

Bundy is Bundeberg Rum, a rich, dark rum made in the sugar fields of Queensland, around the town of Bundeberg. (Imaginative lot, these Queenslanders, when it comes to naming things).

Anyway, as the night progressed, I made the mistake of calling one of these blokes an Englishman.

Did I say mistake? It was downright catastrophic, let me tell you, and I needed all my linguistic skills to talk my way out of it without losing my front teeth!

The pub that we frequented had the best beer in town, as well as having the distinction of being quite close to the local stock sale yards.

Officially called the Farmers Arms, but known locally as the Sheep S*** Inn, it was a great place to hang out.

Of course, when we wanted to go upmarket and impress the ladies, we’d go to the Four Seasons or the Oxford Tavern uptown where the air didn’t make your eyes water!

Not that I was ever really naughty of course, as naughty goes, but…
