There Is A Place With 75 Children Who Need You

this is George's profileIn Sri Lanka there is a small place with 75 children in need of teachers and some basic equipment so that they get basic education.

One teacher costs 190 U.S. dollars per month.

There is a local woman who was introduced to me by a trusted friend…

So begins the information post on the wall of the Facebook group Kathaluwa

As of today, the group has 572 members, and we need more!

Founded by my good friend, George Karahalios, the group has a goal of helping the children of this island nation to recover from the effects of the tsunami that devastated the country three years ago on December 26.

While there is a stated goal of getting people to donate just $2.00 per week to the cause, there are a number of ways to help.

The first of course is to join the group so that you can get updates, and invite your friends as well.

Publicizing the plight of these children is also an important part of helping.

Why should you join this group, and why should you care?

Well, I joined because I am a father, and I live in a western nation where I have been able to build up some assets.

I was also able to take out a life insurance policy should anything happen to my children before they could fend for themselves.

While I wouldn’t call us ‘rich’ by western standards, my wife and I have been able to afford a good education for our kids.

These children in Sri Lanka have none of this.

I know that our children have a decent chance of survival because of what we have provided, and because of what we have taught them.

But what happens to children like these?

Sharing the burden of helping these kids by paying just $2.00 per week can change a life.

Who knows what talent, what seed of greatness lays within any one of these children?

The other factor in Sri Lanka of course has been the ongoing civil war between the Tamil tigers and the government.

This means that not only has the country been devastated by natural disaster, but by civil war as well!

Your help can ease the pain of these orphans.

KathaluwaLet me ask you, how would you feel if these were your children, with no one to care for them.

The more people that we have with us, the more children we can help.

Who Knows? As this grows, we may even be able to help create employment and tertiary education opportunities.

Because of the generous support received so far, I believe that we have been able to help 133 children in some way.

Thank you for reading this note…

  2. Thanks George,

Not sure that it’s in the masterpiece category, but if my writing helps these kids at all, then I’ll keep writing!
