Have The Spammers Killed Follow Friday
Begin Rant
I’ve been away from my blog, and from social media for the past few weeks working on a new project.
While I haven’t been actively participating, I have been checking into Twitter every now and again.
One thing that I have noticed is the deterioration of “Follow Friday”, almost to the point that the trend could be considered dead!
The endless lists of “nice people, great people to follow'” etc. are still doing the rounds, as are FF recommendations from total strangers.
This to me negates any usefulness that the trend had!
I enjoyed recommending friends to follow, and giving a reason for doing so, and will continue to do this.
I won’t be doing it on a Friday though, and I won’t be bothering to use the FF hash tag either.
I don’t know about you, but I feel that Twitter is more about building a network, than a list to market to.
After all, if I am on someone’s email list, it is double opt in, and I have the chance to opt out if I wish!
While I have the right to ‘unfollow’ people who spam me, I shouldn’t have to worry about it.
What do YOU think, have the spammers killed Follow Friday?

Most of the folks that I come in contact with on Twitter are great, it’s just a small minority that misuse it and make it unpleasant for others!
