Social Media Marketing And Reaching The Right People

Below: a representation an average social network!

A Social Network

The typical network is linked by common interests! Although any one individual may not be directly linked to every single member of the network, they are linked through other members.

This means that in a network of 2,000 members, one person may only know 10%, or 200 of that number directly, but his or her influence can extend far beyond that number.

This is one of the reasons that marketers target social networking sites!

One thing that they may not realize though is that the average person in any sort of network doesn’t see the situation in quite the same way!

DartboardThis is how most people see life!

Their comes from the center of their existence, as illustrated by the dart board.

Everything radiates from them, and they listen to WIIFM radio. (What’s in it for me?)

Using social media for promotion is one thing, using it to promote effectively is another.

Talking to the influencers when they are listening is the key, but it is all in the method, and the timing!

Knowing who these key people are, where they meet and how to appeal to them all important!

Whether they meet on Twitter, Facebook or on dart’s night at the local pub, these centers of influence in different groups can make or break a marketing campaign!

Where does the dart board model come in?

Simple! It’s a part of human nature for people to look at the world as if they are at the center of everything!

Reaching key people and rewarding them with a great product will in turn cause them to tell others!

Of course, using social media to promote your business can be risky!

There is a right way to promote your business on sites such as Linkedin and Stumbleupon, and a wrong way.

There is a common misconception that you can join a social network, and fire off messages to all and sundry to get them to come to your site!

That isn’t marketing, it’s spam! It’s worth remembering that people join these websites for social purposes, and to interact with others.

Sending spam will only result in you being cut off by your contacts there, and/or losing your account!

If your time and effort are worth anything, that’s a big waste of resources, as well as being damaging to your reputation!
