Insanity Is Doing The Same Thing Over And Over Again Expecting Different Results

Albert Einstein said that insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

A counter argument may state that consistency and persistence pays off, but as always, the truth probably is probably there in the middle somewhere.

I’ve had the experience in recent times of sharing with a young man who had tossed in his factory job, and got another, equally uninspiring job.

When I asked why, he said that it was a dead end job.

It was obviously time for some straight shooting, so I asked him why, and he said “it was a dead end job”.

So I asked him what qualifications he had, and he answered: “None”

“Well Sunshine”, I said, “until you get some, every job you get is going to be a dead end job!”

Have we set expectations too high?

When I left school, there was a lot of work around for unskilled people, but over the intervening years a lot of those jobs have evaporated as industry has gone offshore.

I’ve seen people who have been able to adapt and change prosper, and have also seen others bogged down and wondering what the hell happened!

How can people adapt to the realities of the age that we live in?

What industries do we need to develop to replace those we’ve lost?

Are we preparing kids for 20th century work in the 21st Century?

I’m not saying that I have the answers, I guess that I am trying to encourage people to think for themselves.

On an individual level, change needs to come from within as people decide to change, to grow and change course.

But what about on a community or national level?

Can the changes be legislated?

I’d love to know your thoughts!
