Life without love is like a tree without blossoms and fruit.

Life would be bleak without love, and I’m not just talking about romantic love.

The ancient Greeks had at least four words for love:

Agape: The love of God.
Phileo: This Greek word has the idea of emotional love.
Eros: Refers to love between a husband and wife.
Stergo: Primarily refers to family love.

Of course, there are dictionaries and encyclopedias that can give a more precise meaning than I can here.

Love of all kinds requires us to give of ourselves.

Mother Theresa’s love and compassion for the down and out touched thousands of lives.

Life Without Love

Failure isn’t fatal, success isn’t final!

And we can’t guarantee tomorrow, so it’s time to get up and have another go.

Winston Churchill certainly knew failure, and did a few spells in the wilderness.

After the disastrous assault on Gallipoli during World War1, he gave up his position as Lord of the Admiralty and rejoined the British Army on the Western Front.

After the war he was in and out of politics, spending much of the 1930s in the wilderness politically.

Of course, history records that he was there when his country needed him.

And he was voted out of office after the war.

Do you think he knew what he was talking about when he said never give up?

Failure isn't fatal

All we have when we come into this world is time, and we never know how much of it we have.

Going back to my first few lines today about love, I’d say that if you were going to invest in something today, I’d recommend relationships.

I spent today climbing rope nets and swing on swings, sliding down slippery dips and eating chocolate with my four year old grandson.

There were other things that I needed to do, like fixing the car and doing stuff, but those hours invested are something that I’ll always remember.

And something that he will too, long after I’ve shuffled off for the last time!

Love is spelled T-I-M-E!
