Why write this if you’re just sending me to My Ebay?
Because I’m talking about buying and selling with confidence, and that is what this post is about.
Confidence on any auction site comes from two main sources, apart from the integrity of the site itself.
These are user feedback, and communication!
Having a good feedback rating is the key to other users having confidence when dealing with you, and one of the ways to build that confidence is by using good communication skills.
If you have a question about an item, ask well before the end of the auction to give time for the seller to get back to you.
Always check on the terms and conditions of the sale, as well as postage and shipping costs.
If bidding on multiple items from the same seller, ask about combining postage to save costs.
I often buy on Ebay’s International sites, even though I am a member of Ebay Australia. One of the things to check is whether or not they ship to International addresses.
I got caught on this one once – my bid wasn’t accepted by the system because the seller only shipped to the United States.
This is how I learned to do my study and ask questions early 😉
The seller apologized when I questioned this and changed the settings for his other auctions, explaining that it was an oversight on his part.
When I win an auction, I always shoot off a quick message thanking the seller for the opportunity to bid on their auction, and telling them that they will receive payment shortly.
This is good manners in my view, especially if they have another auction that I am following, and hope to combine shipping etc.
The Same Goes For Sellers!
Sellers need to realize to that they need to build confidence in potential buyers.
I had an instance where I won an auction, and it took the seller over three days to contact me, even though I had paid for the item within minutes of the auction finishing.
A quick message acknowledging receipt of payment, or thanking the buyer for bidding etc helps to reassure them that everything is in order.
The reason I called this article buying and selling on Ebay with confidence is simply that the other party needs to have confidence in you, as much as you do in them!
I have been using Ebay.com and other sites for a number of years now, and have been able to maintain a 100% positive feedback rating.
It’s not that hard to make that little bit of extra effort…
