Some Truths About Internet Marketing And Why You Might Need To Stop And Think Before Sending That Message
During a recent “Chat Across The Pond”,
Tege remarked that she one of the things she disliked most about some Internet Marketing is that it’s all trickery and sleight of hand, hiding the fact that there’s no real value there.
Pretty strong words, but is she right?
Email Marketing: What It Isn’t!
Email marketing isn’t just a matter of getting of getting a truck load of email addresses and sending sales messages to all of them.
Most people, if they get unsolicited emails from people they don’t know, just don’t open them.
I’m a classic for not opening marketing emails, I trash most without even opening them.
Why? If I am not in the market to buy what’s on offer, why bother?
Another reason, some of the headings on marketing messages make me cringe.
I like listening to radio while I drive long distances because I like analyzing the copy of the ads, what draws me in, and what doesn’t.
I record some, and use them as examples of how not to advertise!
I do the same with email campaigns – I keep the best and pick the others to pieces and hold them up to ridicule!
Marketers need to understand that even if people are ready to buy, the product needs to be presented so that it will attract buyers, not repel them.
Today’s market is growing ever more sophisticated – ‘tricking’ people into buying things that they don’t want only leads to buyer remorse.
Another fallacy that a lot of “marketers’ have fallen for is that people on social networking sites are just sitting there waiting for their sales tweet or update.
“Social” is the keyword in social media.
Sorry, but the truth is that I’m not waiting to read your latest sales update, and if it’s about viagra, cialis or how to gain 300 followers in a day on Twitter, I may just feel mean enough to report you.
Share your links with me and let me know what you do by all means, but try and sell to me all day everyday and we may just clash!
