Miley Cyrus is not smiling about racy photos taken as part of a shoot for Vanity Fair.

A storm has arisen because of the photos featuring the Hanna Montana star.

Vanity Fair claims that Miley’s father, Billy Ray Cyrus, and handlers were at the photo session at all times, while Ms Cyrus has been quoted as saying that she was embarrassed by the events. She went on to apologise to her fans.

An unnamed Disney spokesperson said that “…a situation was created to deliberately manipulate a 15-year-old in order to sell magazines…”

Whatever the truth of the matter, a lot of parents of fans of Miley Cyrus are up in arms, and as can be seen on Lin Buress’ blog, has caused some heated discussion!

It’s not something that Hanna Montana would approve of at all….

Regardless of what she may say, Miley did pose for the photographs, with the knowledge and permission of her parents.

Disney may claim that Vanity Fair manipulated a 15 year old into having the shots done, but with her Dad and staff looking on, that’s a hard claim to swallow.

Raising a teenager in today’s world is hard enough, without the constant glare of publicity, and the attention of the papparazzi that this girl has to suffer.

As with Britney Spears before her, there is the danger that it could all go horribly wrong.

Miley CyrusCourting media attention this way is certainly a two edged sword, and is fraught with danger.

Former media darlings such as Paris Hilton and Britney Spears are evidence of the speed with which the media turns on them when public opinion turns as well.

For the sake of this young lady, I hope that it doesn’t happen in this case.

  1. It’s been interesting, to say the least. Many people, parents included, see no problem with the racy photo at all, saying they’re “classy”. Since when is it “ok” to photograph a teen this way? She’s 15 for goodness sakes.

Many seem to have the opinion that this is how it works in showbiz, and I’m making much ado about nothing. It’s been very interesting to watch my stats to see how many actually continue to read the “So Sexy So Soon” article and keep coming back to read it again and again. I only hope people are pondering the problems of sexualizing children at such a young age.

  2. I agree Lin, the issue isn’t whether the photographs are tasteful or not, but rather, the exploitation of a minor.

We hear so much about pedophilia today, and see massive amounts of resources dedicated to catching pedophiles, and rightly so, but on the other hand, the sexualisation of young children, which can only add to the problem.

Somehow doesn’t make sense to me.

In the meantime, it has been very interesting reading the feedback that you have received on your site each day! Makes me wonder how some people think!

    Cheers!

  3. Is anyone really surprised? What are the chances this girl has to reach 21 with her head on straight? Slim to say the least. Our whole society is insane and celebrity fixation has to be one of the most glaring signs of that insanity. I truly feel sorry for people like Miley Cyrus and Britney Spears in a way – because I don’t think they even have a chance to be themselves. They never get to figure out who that is.

  4. Yes, I feel sorry for them too.

The trouble is the influence that they hold over other kids their age that look up to them. While the media records every move they make, and promotes their celebrity status, it can turn on them just as quickly as soon as they make a mistake.
