Guest Post by Ange about Kokoda

Allan left me the keys for tonight as he had to dash out on a mercy run for some plumbing equipment so I thought I would share some of my thoughts as my trip to trek the Kokoda Track draws ever nearer.

Only 15 sleeps until I fly out with a team of 11 other courageous and wonderful beings to take on one of the most grueling treks there is. We had a team meeting with our tour guide for the trek only a couple of nights ago and they gave us a souvenir t-shirt and our “snack packs” which contain a cup of soup for lunch everyday, a couple of bags of powered Gatorade which is a sugar drink, some jelly lollies and some muesli bars.

These will serve us during the day’s hiking and we have been told that we get a cooked breakfast and dinner. I can’t wait to see what we get… and I will have to add some kind of chocolate flavoured sweeties too… I can’t do without my chocolate!

As I have been through the training and purchasing clothes and equipment which I have never had the need for before, I have been imagining what it would be like once we are there. Truthfully, I don’t think that anything can prepare me or anyone for what we will experience as it has been hailed as an experience of a life time.

Researching for information about the track has led me to some very interesting sites and especially a series of videos which I stumbled across yesterday where a group of some well known Aussie personalities took the challenge and what they endured on their way. I posted this Youtube and other links on my site and I would like for you to see them too. I watched the 8 videos in tears and laughter… you will know what I mean when you watch them and I hope you will as it is a fantastic series which only takes around 30 minutes to get through.
