The New York Times says that you may just have a lifetime contract!

One person who tried to delete thair account described it as being like The Hotel California, because you can check out any time you like, but you can never leave!

The website does allow people to deactivate their accounts, but the terms and conditions state ‘that you acknowledge that the company may retain archived copies of your user content.’

You are able to deactivate your account, with all data retained, which allows you to reactivate it at any time in the future without loss of data.

Canceling your account involves emailing the company, and deleting your content as well. You can find details on how to do that here.

Your Privacy Is Your Responsibility

While there shouldn’t be anything your profile which isn’t public knowledge anyway, the fact is that more people have access to it.

If you’re not comfortable with this, adjust your privacy settings, and only include information that you would want others to see.

If you are using the site for networking purposes, only allowing friends to see your profile could hinder this activity.

It’s far easier to simply not include certain information such as birthdays etc on your profile.

Networking and making friends on sites such as Facebook and Myspace is fun, and is an easy way to meet others.

A number of the people I’ve met there have become ‘real life’ friends as well.
