Can You Lose Your Account And Get Kicked Off Facebook

Facebook LogoOf course you can get kicked off Facebook, but for some strange reason I get asked this quite often.

The Facebook Terms of Service makes interesting reading, and I am sure that many people don’t really read them until they are in trouble.

The Facebook TOS makes interesting reading, and includes the following reasons for losing an account:

‘…upload, post, transmit, share or otherwise make available any unsolicited or unauthorized advertising, solicitations, promotional materials, “junk mail,” “spam,” “chain letters,” “pyramid schemes,” or any other form of solicitation…’

It is a very broad definition, and while there may be some who have been hard done by, the conditions are there.

Simply stated – send a heap of unsolicited messages, promoting a business or point of view, and posting chain letters on walls will get you into trouble.

The terms of service also plainly state that you can’t have more than one account, and that you should only post videos, photos and other content that you or your friends have created.

I do realize that reading a TOS document can be a bit of a dry experience, but it really does make sense to take the time to read them!

In talking to people who have lost their accounts, I can see where they have broken the rules somewhere along the line, and I can see why they are upset, but the fact is that Facebook does have the right to run the site the way they see fit.

Possibly over time we may see some clearer definitions but it really is the responsibility of the user to have an idea of the rules, and work within them.

Please note that as stated above, I have no connection with Facebook at all, nor make claims on their behalf.

This post is intended to highlight the conditions of use of the site.

I recommend that visitors follow the link above and read them for themselves.
