Mark Zuckerberg Doesn’t Need To Spam Facebook

by Allan on December 18, 2007

To Whom It May Concern:

Mark Zuckerberg is not a spammer, and he does not need you to spam everybody on his behalf!

And what brought all this on?

Another piece of worthless trash that is getting around and cluttering up Facebook!

Someone has come up with a piece of rubbish claiming to be written by Mr Zuckerberg, asking people to pass it on to indicate that their accounts are active, or run the risk of having their account deleted!

I dearly wish that people would read these things when they receive them, and simply delete them! Don’t send them on!

One look shows how badly written and laid out it is!

Any notice from Facebook would probably be posted on members’ home pages, or sent via email, and would be a lot more professional than this piece of trash!

An organization like Facebook is all about growth, and a professional image!

I would imagine that forwarding garbage like this could put you in danger of having your account deactivated because of spam!

The Message: (As received, errors included)

Attention all Facebook membeRs.
Facebook is recently becoming very overpopulated,
There have been many members complaining that Facebook
is becoming very slow.Record shows that the reason is
that there are too many non-active Facebook members
And on the other side too many new Facebook members.
We will be sending this messages around to see if the
Members are active or not,If you’re active please send
to other users using Copy+Paste to show that you are active
Those who do not send this message within 2 weeks,
The user will be deleted without hesitation to create more space,
If Facebook is still overpopulated we kindly ask for donations but
until then send this message to all your friends and make sure you send
this message to show me that your active and not deleted.

Founder of Facebook
Mark Zuckerberg

End Message!

Important: Please Read:

I am a member of Facebook, and enjoy the friendship and interaction of people from all around the world.

I also enjoy, and appreciate, the facilities that Facebook provides for millions of other people like me.

Other than this, I have no connection with Facebook, or Mark Zuckerberg as an employee or spokesperson, and make no such claim.

This post is a result of constantly having to delete chain letters from my wall, as well as being both amazed and frustrated at how gullible some people can be!

Mmmmm.. problems with space eh Allan? Perhaps if they clean all those inactive users out they could relaunch as “Spacebook” then.

Cheers,

It says something about us as people I think, and how we attach credibility to things… there’s even a group on Facebook based around a spam email that was getting around a while back. The people think that it’s real, but I haven’t had the heart to tell them otherwise…

Well it seems like this one just got dug out of the closet again, (just recived it today) although it is only 3 months or so from the last post. What gives me the poops is that Facebook encourages this behaviour by having the Foward (Fast) link at the bottom of each post. But…I guess if Facebook was ever sold, this method of getting spam/advertising to go viral would certainly make it a worthwhile proposition.

On the human front, it is unfortunate that even some of my friends are among those stoopid enough not to be able to tell the difference between a real post and spam, but a real post on facebook…give me a break.

G’day Timbo,

I don’t know if they’re stupid, don’t think, or just don’t read stuff that is sent to them!

Anyone can see that facebook is there to grow and make money, not hunt people away.

I’ve never sent stuff by pressing the ‘fast’ link – although I have noticed that when I want to send stuff to just one or two people, that it is a pain to pick through and find them, and that if you aren’t careful, a lot of boxes remain ticked…

Cheers, and thanks for the comment!

Well I was taken in by the letter, took me ages to send it on, makes me so mad that this could happen.
And I am elderly so not that stupid, however it seems from what others have posted.. that I am.

Jean out..

Hello Jean,

I’d say that you aren’t stupid at all, and neither are most of the people who have been taken in by letters like these!

These letters can be made to seem so real, and they do catch a lot of people off guard.

The aim of the article isn’t to make people feel as though they are stupid, but rather is meant to act as a ‘billboard’ on the cyber highway to help others avoid getting sucked in by scams like this!

Please accept my apologies if the article made you feel silly, as that was not my intention!

Have a great day!

Allan

C’mon people. If Facebook really needed to know who is active or not, they don’t need a message to circulate. all they would have to do is check their login stats. If they see you drop out of activity for whatever amount of time (6, 9, or 12 months) they can delete your account. Though I seriously don’t think they would have to – an unused account sitting on a hard drive somewhere will have minimal effect on performance. If you want to speed up Facebook then close down your farm, spray Round-Up on your garden, write up a treaty to end your mafia war, spay and neuter all your pets, and get back to basics!
