A Note About Social Media Sites And Evangelists

by Allan Cockerill on July 18, 2008

Plurk IconPlurk is looking for an evangelist.

To me, an evangelist has always been a Billy Graham type of person, out preaching the good news and winning the lost to the Lord.

Hearing the term in the context of business, and especially social media sites, is a relatively new thing for me.

Having said that, I can see that gifts that within the church are also needed in the community.

Ephesians 4:11 says that “….it was He who gifted some to be apostles, others to be prophets, others to be evangelists, and still others to be pastors and teachers…”

I wonder how that translates into secular life?

A social media site like Plurk where people can relax and be themselves is certainly good news, but I wonder if it is the gift that counts here, or doing the work of an evangelist?

To me, a position like this would need to go to someone that already had a wide range of contacts, is active on the site, and already promotes it with a passion.

Of course, there are others who could dot the ‘i’ s and cross the ‘t’ s as far as public promotion is concerned, but would the true image or flavour of the site come through?

It seems that a ‘born promoter’ is what Plurk is looking for:

Are you an interweb hipster? Do you have a plurkodex longer than Perez Hilton’s? Do you hobnob in the Hamptons, party with Diddy, go to church with Hilary Duff and love us long time?

If you do, holla at us for a good time.

We are looking for our own resident A-lister.

An outgoing, sassy, snarky and very plurky person who can engage our community, keep residents of Plurkland happy, welcome new users to our community, interface with media, bloggers, and other e-celebs, amongst an array of other public facing activities involving communication in one form or another.

If you are a born promoter, with great presentation skills and an ability to strike up a conversation with anyone on just about anything and bring people to your side, we want you.

I’m looking forward to seeing you there!
