Application Forces Users To Spam Friends Before They Use It

QuestionI had someone send me an invitation to add yet another ‘spam’ application today! My Online Friends requires new users to send out invitations to friends before they can use it!

Here are some of the reviews of the application:

Jenny Said: SPAM app – Do not add

Ignored, blocked, and listed on “The List: An A-Z of Rotten Apple(t)s” .

For more info on fighting SPAM apps, join the group “No, I will NOT invite 20 friends just to add your application!”

Bob Said: SPAM your friends today!

Trust your application to be good enough for me to promote on my own!

Don’t ask me to spam any friends in order to use it or see my results! I don’t really understand why people fan applications that force you to spam your friends or standing!!

Paul Said: Crapplications!

Congratulations. Your lame spam promoting site has been added to the group ‘Crapplications and Badads’ for forcing invites.

I Have not and will not load this site.

Other face bookers take note. Lets help each other out by commenting and always look at comments before you add applications.

My Opinion

Well said everyone. Crapplications is the word for Facebook applications that force users to invite friends before they can use it.

Before adding any application, follow Paul’s advice and read the comments first.

Important Notice: This application was not developed by Facebook, which simply provides links to applications as a courtesy.

The company makes no representations regarding the applications or any information related to them.

Any questions regarding an application should be directed to the developer.

I do not have any links with Facebook other than as a member of the site, and make no claim to speak on that Company’s behalf!

The Last Word:
The image at the beginning of this post is the one on the application profile – I added the text.

I must say that the whole thing looks really unprofessional from start to finish!

One would expect that if they wanted to make an impression, that the developers could have at least used a decent image.

I really admire how you take the time to post warnings such as this. It is informative and helpful. I don’t use facebook but my kids do. I will surely pass this on to them. How can people stand to spam their friends just so they can use the application? Its as if they don’t know how it feels to be spammed.

Where I come from, friends don’t do that to friends. Thanks friend.

  2. Hi Durano,

I guess that people send invitations without thinking, the same as they send chain letters.

i think that more people are making a stand though, and that this sort of thing will change as Facebook matures.

    Thanks for your kind words,

    Allan

  3. G’day Matt,

I guess that it wouldn’t be as much of a problem a problem if the applications were half way decent – good programs and content spread anyway, because people like them – being forced to invite others leaves a bad taste, and calls into question the ethics of the application’s owners.

  4. Hi Allan… another informative post! Truthfully… I ignore all the requests I get now as they build up to quickly. I think I have enough apps anyway so no need for any more. I did a clean up and removed my Superwall as I was sick and tired of receiving some of those awful posts that go around. I simply stick to replying to my mail and finding new friends… although I have to say that I get requests everyday so I don’t have to search much 😉

  5. You should submit this to Face Reviews, or at least email it to Rodney. He’d get a kick out of it.

  6. G’day Ange,

There are so many ways to get caught spamming on Facebook without even realizing you are doing it – I noticed one earlier today that I intend writing about tomorrow – one person sent a post to 308 people without thinking, and I doubt they even realized how many they’d posted to..!

Hey Tinu, that sounds like a great idea…

How is the planning going for the Vegas gig? 🙂

    Cheers,

    Allan
