Follow Friday August 14 2009

This week was another extremely busy one, and I have been too busy to update my blog more than once per week lately!

I have been able to maintain my #Follow Friday posts though.

Allan Cockerill I began writing these posts a little while back to explain why I follow different people, and my reason for recommending them to others.

I find that this is better than simply picking a list of names and sending them around the Twittersphere, a practice that seems to be overused at times.

I met Jim Stewart after being referred to him by Ric Raftis

Jim is an SEO specialist, and makes videos on the topic. I chose to follow him because I am definitely not one myself, and need to learn more.

After watching Jim’s latest video, I was sold on his ability to get his message across! Well worth following!

Andy Bailey is the creator of Comment Luv, a great WordPress plugin that encourages your visitors to comment on blog posts by spreading the love, and showing their latest post near their comment.

Andy has further enhanced his service by introducing the plugin for Blogger, as well as Com Luv enabled blogs for users on his servers!

A Quick Follow Tip:

While many people go hunting for people to follow in the hope that they will follow them in turn, I follow people who are providing a service that I need.

By following people like Jim Stewart, Andy Bailey and Ric Raftis for instance, I stand to learn and thus gain a lot more than if I were simply out looking for “followers”.

I met Leela Cosgrove a little while back on Twitter!

This Information Product Creation Specialist, speaker, teacher, marketer, salesperson and all round Rockstar is great value on the site.

She is what I would call the ideal Tweeter – with around 5 tweets/day, with 56% of them being conversations!

Need stats like these?

I use Mr Tweet and Topify. These tools are very handy when you are wondering whether that new follower will spam you if you follow them in turn!

They give the number of tweets per day, plus the percentage of links in their tweets.

Rebecca Lange is a share trader, mother, writer, parent, wine lover, internet copywriter, lover of life, and creator of magic moments who is into the law of attraction!

Rebecca participates and engages in conversation with her Twitter friends – do I seem to be majoring on interaction here?

A must follow if you wish to learn how to interact on Twitter!

Well, that’s my Fabulous Four (plus more) Follow Friday recommendations for this week. I’ll round it off by recommending my Share2Grow partners as well, Teeg and Christine

Everyone mentioned here makes my social networking experience so much richer! Have a great weekend, and remember the Twitter Golden Rule:

Tweet others as you would like to be tweeted unto!

  1. Great post Allan, not because I’m mentioned, but because I think you have tapped into the true spirit of #FollowFriday. Recommendations, such as you have made, are what it is all about really. Not just a list of people on Twitter tagged with FollowFriday.

    Well done mate!

    Cheers,

  2. @RicRaftis thanks Ric! The #ff lists don’t seem to carry much weight these days! I’d rather know who I’m following, and promote those who use Twitter properly!

    Have a good weekend! 🙂
