Giant Facebook Party Trashes City Garden Causes Thousands Of Dollars Damage

Facebook IconFollowing a number of party incidents spawned on Myspace by groups of teenagers, a Facebook group has caused outrage in the British city of Leeds by trashing an award winning garden with a giant water fight.

The group, Leeds Biggest Waterfight 2008 has over 9,000 members.

It’s estimated that over 350 people actually attended the giant waterfight, held at the Millennium Square Garden in Leeds.

The garden was built in honor of Nelson Mandela, and received a medal from the Chelsea Flower show in 2004.

Apart from the thousands of dollars worth of damage caused, the significant part of this event is the role played by social media, and Facebook in particular.

With news of a US citizen being released from jail after using Twitter to inform friends that he had been arrested shows the increasing power of social networking online.

I must say though that I find it hard to believe that Engand would be a warm enough place to do this anyway….
