Networking: Beyond Facebook

Networking isn’t rocket science, and as I have said, certainly isn’t limited to online activities.

Using your blog with networking sites is a very easy way of extending your network as well.

I use Blog Friends on Facebook.

It’s a simple matter of adding your url, editing your preferences, and your blog feed displays on your profile.

The best thing about Blog Friends is that it displays on other users’ profiles too. These users are friends who also use the application, as well as their friends. I have had a number of people join my network this way.

Other sites like Myspace also have blogs, and in common with Facebook, don’t look too kindly on members advertising on the site… at least without paying.

Networking here is simply a matter of letting people get to know you.

Having good content on your web site to attract people is the key starting point, then it’s a simple matter of pointing people to it.

I don’t believe in advertising to my friends on social networking sites, simply because the keyword is social.

The fact that the administrators sell advertising on the site themselves is irrelevant – that’s their business model.

I have finally worked my way around to adding some of my other profiles to this site. Feel free to look me up there.

Just follow the links in the sidebar!

For something different, here’s a video interview with Tom from Myspace!
